End Hunger with Food Lifeline
Help feed hungry people in our community – click to learn how to become a Product Recovery Specialist  at Food Lifeline! On a mission to end hunger in Western Washington, this nonprofit announces a new volunteer program, to begin May 21, that will provide wholesome, nutritious food to those who need it, and support community partnerships with retail grocery stores. Volunteers will handle perishable food donations from local grocers, sorting product for quality and safety, rescuing thousands of pounds of food each week from landfills, for distribution to emergency shelters, meal programs, and food banks in the Puget Sound area.  Please volunteer to help!

Qualified volunteers can:

• Commit to a three-hour shift one afternoon a week

• Read food labels in English and follow written culling guidelines

• Lift a maximum of 15-20 lbs

• Have fun and work cooperatively in small groups

MAPLE LEAF AREA ANNOUNCEMENT:
Former Lakeside Middle School Head Joins The Perkins Elementary School
Brent Norton, board president of the non profit Perkins Elementary School, announced today that Donna Rowland will become the Head of School effective July 1, 2006. Donna, former Head of the Lakeside Middle School, comes to Perkins with a long track record of outstanding educational experiences in independent elementary and middle schools on the west coast. "While we are sorry to see our current Interim Director retire, we could not be more excited about Donna’s decision to join Perkins," commented Mr. Norton. "Donna's wide-ranging skills and experience will help the School maintain the Perkins' tradition and mission of guiding and nurturing capable children to emerge as well rounded, well educated learners who succeed in their educational, social and community endeavors."

The Perkins Elementary School, founded in 1946, offers small classroom sizes in a home-like setting for students in transitional kindergarten through 5th Grade and is located on Roosevelt Way in the heart of the Maple Leaf District of Seattle.
