April Gardening Tips

  • Put out seedling starts like broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, lettuce, greens, and some root crops like carrots, turnips, etc.

  • Start seeds indoors for warmer weather plants such as annual and perennial flowers, tomatoes, basil, summer squashes, peppers, beans.

  • Pull dandelions from your lawn before they go to seed!

  • Clean up winter weeds before they go to seed.

  • Apply lime to your lawn.

  • If you believe in fertilizing your lawn, April is a good time to do it.  Organic plant foods are available as an alternative.

  • It's OK to prune hedges just about anytime.

  • Cut daffodils and make a bouquet!
