June Gardening Tips
  • With the current cost of water, it's a safe bet that you are letting your lawn die! Nowadays many people are tearing out lawns and replacing them with landscape plants and groundcovers.  Wooly Thyme grows fast and can even take light foot traffic!

  • It's safe now to transplant tomatoes and basil to outside if you haven't already.

  • Are you trying to grow peppers?  You probably need a greenhouse, but you can try planting them in the sunniest, driest, warmest place on the south side of your house.

  • Trim hedges

  • Cover potato leaves with mulch to produce more potatoes

  • Harvest your leafy greens and make a fresh healthy salad.

  • Your green peas should getting ready to harvest.

  • Harvest onions, leeks, and garlic.

  • Remove chive blossoms to keep producing chive leaves.

  • Feed your lawn.

  • Aerate your lawn.

  • Trap moles - they start getting very busy in June.

  • Get rid of weeds.  You can pull them, or spray them with one of the newer safer herbicides such as Roundup, Finale, or Safer's.
